4월은 잔인한 달

불모의 대지에서 라일락을 키우고

추억과 욕정을 뒤섞고

봄비로 미몽의 뿌리를 흔드노라

겨울의 온유함이여

하얀 눈으로 대지의 기억을 덮고

마른 구근으로 갸날픈 생명을 먹였느니

슈타른버거호를 건너온 여름

소나기로 놀래키네

회랑에서 비를 피하고 햇빛 속을 걸어

호프가르텐에서 커피를 마시며

한 시간씩 대화를 나누었네

나는 러시아 사람이 아니에요. 리투아니아 출생이지만, 순수 독일인이에요.

어려서 대공 댁에 머물던 시절

사촌이 나를 썰매에 태우고

놀란 내게 말했어요

Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
